Learning objectives:

By the end of this unit, teachers will be able to:

  • Define child abuse in accordance with international and Kenyan legal frameworks.
  • Identify and distinguish between the four main forms of abuse: physical, sexual, emotional/psychological, and neglect.
  • Recognize common signs and indicators of each form of abuse within a school setting.
  • Understand the concept of grooming and how it may occur in or away from schools.
  • Explain the responsibilities of teachers in responding to and reporting suspected abuse, in alignment with the Children Act (2022) and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) guidelines.
